Hunger that Feeds the Body but not the Soul
The
seventh message from the series:
The
Seven Deadly Sins
I
Corinthians 6: 12-14; 19-20
April
30, 2000
I. Gluttony indulges the appetites of the body and enslaves a person to the impulses of the flesh
…I will not be mastered by
anything (I Cor. 6:12)
II. Gluttony ignores and inverts God’s good intentions in creation
Everything God created is
good and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, (I Tim.
3:4) Let your moderation be known
to all men. The Lord is at hand. (Phil. 4:5)
III. Gluttony indicates the focus of ones life
Food is for the stomach and
the stomach is for food; but God will do away with both of them Yet the body is
not for immorality, but for the Lord; (I Cor. 6:13)
IV. Gluttony interrupts one’s fellowship with the Father
And not many days after the
younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and
there wasted his substance with riotous living. (Luke 15:13)
V. Grace invites us home
For this son of mine was
dead and is alive again, he was lost and is found. (Luke 15:24)
VI. Grace initiates self control
Do your not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you? …You are
not your own your were bought at a price Therefore honor God with your body. (I
Cor. 6:19-20)
VII. Grace instills hope
Now God has not only raised the Lord but will also raise us up through his power. (I Cor. 6:14)
